Using the Map

  • To change your location, you can type the name of any city and country into the Location bar and click Go!.
  • You can move around by dragging the map or by clicking on the arrows in the pan/zoom control in the upper left-hand corner of the map. You can also zoom in and out by clicking on its plus and minus buttons:

  • Locate the place on the map that you want to write about. You can do this by entering the place into the Location bar and clicking Go!. The place name can often be as specific as a street address. Or you can click at a point on the map. A red place marker will appear on the map, marking the precise latitude and longitude of the point:

  • When the red marker appears on the map, the Add Page text box pops up just above the map. Enter a name for your page and click the Add Page button. When you have accepted the page name, the editing screen will replace the map.
  • You can change your mind and select another location. The red place marker will move to the new location.
  • Your page will be indexed by Country and City/Place Name. It will be also be identified by its latitude and longitude. When visitors come to Cityscapes, they will be able to find your pages both by its indexed name and by latitude and longitude, which will be idenfified on their maps by place markers.
  • The small blue markers identify locations that have already been chosen:

If you click on a blue marker, a small pop-up will appear with a link to the file that is associated with this location.

Cityscapes stores your pages by Country and City (or Place).
Sometimes the database supplies geographical names that are not an accurate reflection of the location requested when you click 'Go!'. It may find instead a nearby town or regional name or a city neighborhood or a park or some other landmark.
Make any necessary corrections, using the City/Place text box. This will insure that your pages for a particular location are grouped together.
Note: The latitudes and longitudes shown are always correct.
